As an alternative to Christmas cards, each year ROQ donates £500 worth of goods to a charity of their choosing. This year, ROQ purchased £500 worth of toys and donated them to Cash4Kids Mission Christmas. In previous years, homeless shelters, women’s refuges and many more, have benefitted from this initiative.
Cash4kids Mission Christmas is Bauer Radio’s network of local charities across the UK, helping sick and underprivileged children in our communities. Each year they raise millions of pounds for local children and young people in need of extra help - especially during the festive period.
In support of this, on Friday 7th December, ROQ held a charity Christmas shopping event. They invited several small local businesses in to their Head Office to sell their goods, varying from chocolate and jams to jewellery and toiletries. ROQ themselves ran a cake sale and a tombola at the event, raising an extra £350 in cash, bringing the donations to a grand total of £850.
Additionally, ROQ kindly offers a fantastic initiative called Community Days, which allows each employee to take one working day per year to carry out work in the community, donating their time to a charity or cause close to their heart. On Friday 21st December, four colleagues from ROQ took part in their Community Day at the Mission Christmas sorting depot in Preston, where they sorted and packed gifts for the recipients of all the generous donations from across Lancashire.
ROQ Community Ambassador, Joe Horrocks said “We’ve all really enjoyed this past month. We do fundraisers like this quite often and everyone digs deep and gets involved. It’s brilliant to see the team come together for a worthy cause. It’s also fantastic that we get to see this one through to the end by dropping off the donations at the sorting office as part of our Community Days. We know the children will enjoy their gifts as much as we’ve enjoyed the fundraising - and that makes it all worthwhile”.
From everyone at ROQ – Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
