ROQ Hosts Virtual Event for IT Leaders – ‘Can we help solve the skills shortage and inspire the next generation at the same time?’

On Thursday 11th November 2021, ROQ hosted a virtual event for Senior IT Leaders, with the topic of “The new ‘Test Engineering Academy’, can we help solve the skills shortage and inspire the next generation at the same time?”

The event was organised following the recent launch of ROQ’s new-look Test Engineering Academy.

As part of ROQ’s passion for driving quality outcomes through the industry, it has developed the ROQ Test Engineering academy. This is born from the desire to support the next generation of technologists into a career in the sector.

Partnered with market-leading training provider Credersi, the aim is to provide a best-in-class training programme to develop young people through the acclaimed academy programme. In addition, ROQ has involved 20 industry leaders, as part of focus groups, to input into the programme to shape the most comprehensive learnings.

The skills learned are aligned to industry recognised ISTQB, Tester Apprenticeship and SFIA with plenty of real project learning, with mentoring and support from leading technology professionals

The event’s attendees included senior IT leaders from a range of global organisations. All the attendees recognise the positive social impact an initiative like ROQ’s new academy has, in solving the skills shortage that most technology leaders face, and wished to understand how they can help to make this a huge success for the good of all.

The session was hosted by Stephen Johnson, Director and Founder of ROQ, who gave a 25-minute presentation on the Academy programme, complete with a video interview featuring two ROQ academy scheme alumni who discuss their experiences and the benefits of a career in Test Engineering. The presentation was extremely well received and sparked many discussion points for the subsequent interactive session and Q&A.

After the event Stephen commented: “It was great to have such a high level of engagement on such a topical issue. We know there is a UK and global skills shortage, and the academy model presented, showed what ROQ are doing about it – in our own way. The questions, as always, were thought provoking, but all coming from a good place. It was great to see that the senior IT leaders also share our passion for developing talent, and not just expecting it on tap. There will no doubt be some further conversations to explore how it might work for the organisations who were at the event”
