80% Time Saving Delivered for Healthcare Client's Dynamics 365 Testing

The Client 

Luxury award-winning residential, nursing and dementia care in a range of locations across London and the home counties.  

The Challenge

Consolidation of CRM and ERP functions into a new instance of Microsoft Dynamics 365 to deliver the required business value. 

In April 2020 an early release of Dynamics for the Finance workstream was attempted, however, this ended up delivering multiple live incidents containing defects requiring urgent attention and time to fix. 

The fundamental cause of this failed release was the lack of testing structure and rigour. The finance team’s subject matter experts (SMEs) were tasked with carrying out the testing but due to not being testing experts, only basic and minimal functional coverage was delivered with poor levels of reliability.

Roq’s Solution

Functional testing, UAT and creation of automated test suites for each of the different workstreams including Finance, HR and Payroll.

The client engaged Roq as its preferred partner due to experience, technical expertise, and ability to provide independent challenge across their dynamics programme. Having been burned before, the client valued Roq’s approach is to ensuring that business processes and the integrations that support them, work as intended.

Roq worked with multiple third-party development companies and SME’s to produce the test suites, creating and running automated regression suites using the RSAT tool (part of the MS Dynamics toolset).

Due to huge success in earlier stages of the project, the client asked the Roq team to create full regression test suites for other workstreams outside of initial scope, including Dynamics infrastructure testing, defining and creating full end-to-end testing and QA for CE (Customer Engagement) as well as overseeing all UAT.

The Outcome

Before automating, the regression test packs took c.40 hours to complete manually and can now be run in under eight hours, creating an approximate 80% saving for the client.
