Roq Supports UK Bank Through Flexcube Migration and Upgrade

Roq supports established Private Bank in driving a shift to a Quality Engineering mindset, delivering UAT support, best practice defect management processes, and a bespoke test automation suite, whilst enabling standard repeatable test activity and wider business engagement improvements.

The Challenge

Roq’s Client is a private bank which has been in business for 250 years and deals largely in UK sport. 

They had a need to migrate their existing version of Oracle Flexube to a customer facing business critical cloud-based application, and subsequently upgrade FlexCube OBDX and online banking.

Roq was approached by the client to drive towards adopting a Quality Engineering mindset. A decline in confidence in a previous test partner had seen them seek change whilst increasing their reporting and governance of test entry and exit processes.

Roq’s Solution

Roq used their Quality Engineering expertise and extensive experience in the Banking and Finance sector to quickly analyse and plug gaps in the client’s testing processes, this included; 

• The introduction of ‘run books’ to support standard repeatable test activity across the business

• The improvement of wider business engagement and UAT support

• Introduction of best practice defect management processes

• The development of a bespoke test automation suite.

A key part of this project was UAT. Roq advocates early engagement as a crucial element of Quality Engineering (shift-left). In some cases, where the appropriate test managers are not involved in project planning stages, it can result in issues arising during that phase of build. During this project, some gaps needed to be identified during engagement when such challenges occurred. Indeed some business users had started to lose confidence in the project. Therefore Roq used its experience in this field to manage stakeholder expectations, increase wider business buy-in and steer the project back on track.

The Outcome  

Roq’s initial engagement ended in the successful implementation of both the migration and upgrade phases of the project, with the following added benefits:

• Approved tooling approach

• Standardised test processes and documentation

• Bespoke automated testing pack

The project was only for six weeks initially, but due to Roq’s service delivery excellence, the client has chosen to extend to a 15-month contract of ongoing Quality Engineering support and guidance. 

It’s safe to say the client is happy with Roq’s delivery, with one senior stakeholder describing the Roq team as “... Good, reliable, knowledgable and engaging”.
