Shifting the mindset: how a UK private bank used test automation to restore confidence and enable transformation

Faced with a major platform migration and an upgrade to a critical online banking service, a leading UK private bank turned to Roq to help restore delivery confidence. Roq brought Quality Engineering expertise to stabilise testing processes, deliver a bespoke automation suite, and re-engage business users — resulting in a successful programme and long-term client partnership.

OUR CLIENT 

A UK-based private bank with a 250-year heritage, serving clients in the sport and wealth sectors. Known for its bespoke financial services and reputation for discretion, it operates in a highly regulated and high-trust environment. 

THE CLIENT CHALLENGE 

The bank needed to migrate its legacy version of Oracle Flexcube to a cloud-based platform and subsequently upgrade Flexcube OBDX and its online banking experience. Key challenges emerged as the project progressed: 

  • Confidence in testing had declined due to issues with a previous partner. 

  • Test processes lacked consistency, clarity, and sufficient governance. 

  • Business users had begun to lose confidence in the programme due to gaps in UAT planning and engagement. 

  • Automation capability was limited, with no reusable, standardised assets in place. 

WHAT WE DELIVERED 

Through our Test Automation and Continuous Testing solution, Roq delivered both strategic and hands-on support — helping the bank adopt a Quality Engineering mindset while improving key delivery outcomes: 

  • Introduced best practice defect management and test governance processes. 

  • Developed a bespoke automation suite to enable repeatable testing of online banking functionality.

  • Created ‘run books’ and reusable documentation to standardise test activity across teams. 

  • Supported UAT through early engagement, business user alignment, and expectation management. 

  • Provided guidance on tooling selection and stakeholder reporting. 

Delivered as a short-term engagement initially, the programme was extended into a 15-month Quality Engineering partnership. 

CLIENT IMPACT 

Roq’s involvement enabled the client to regain control of its testing processes and successfully deliver two major platform milestones: 

  • Achieved successful delivery of both the migration and upgrade phases of the Oracle Flexcube programme. 

  • Rebuilt trust and business alignment through UAT leadership and structured stakeholder engagement. 

  • Established a reusable automation pack and standardised documentation to support future change. 

  • Secured long-term confidence in Roq’s expertise, leading to an extension from a 6-week engagement to a 15-month contract.
